The Creation
(Genesis 1:3-2:2)
Words and music © 2004 Jim Mitchell
God spoke "Let there be light" and all around Him there was light
He saw the light was good and called it "day" and darkness "night"
The three full days of forming were now started in His sight.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.
The firmament with water on each side was His delight
He named it heaven - sky suspended - fashioned by His might,
A wonder of creation was perfected in His sight
And the evening and the morning were the second day.
God gathered water under heaven flowing into seas
And dry ground was called earth with vegetation - plants and trees,
With seeds and fruits according to their kinds in His decrees
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
And God saw it was good! God saw it was good.
In everything He created. God saw it was good.
He spoke the lights of heaven that now govern night and day
The sun and moon and stars divide earth darkness in that way.
Now three days filling were begun in God's lighted display
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
O let the water teem with living creatures big and small
And let birds fly above the earth across the heavens all,
Be fruitful and increase in number was God's loving call
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Come let the earth bring forth the living creatures of their kind
Then God made beasts and cattle, creeping creatures that we find.
And man was then created in His image and defined.
And the evening and the morning was the sixth day.
And God saw it was good! God saw it was good.
In everything He created, God saw it was good.
The heavens and the earth were now complete with vast array
And God saw it was good and rested on the seventh day,
He blessed and made it holy and His Light shines forth the way
With reverence and with awe we bow to serve Him.
And God saw it was good! God saw it was good.
In everything He created, God saw it was good.
