Jar of Clay
(2 Corinthians 4:7)

Words and music by © 1989 Jim Mitchell

Chorus:
Have you got your treasure in a jar of clay?
That's the place your treasure oughta be.
The Spirit can indwell you and forever stay,
He's the greatest gift for you and me.
He is tenderhearted and will always see you started
In the right direction that He has for you!
He is so forgiving and He makes your life worth living
It's an act of faith for you to want to do!
(Repeat first 2 verses)

Verse 1
People search around for the biggest house in town
And it's often where their treasure's gonna be.
Maybe it's a car that will twinkle like a star
And the neighbors rub their eyes so they can see!
Treasures can be fun and bring joy to everyone
And it's always joy at first when you receive,
But moth and rust destroy and your treasure will annoy,
And you realize that worldly things deceive.

Verse 2
When Jesus is with me it's a treasure just to be
His companion and to know He's always there.
He doesn't need a lock and he watches round the clock
To ensure I'm walking with Him everywhere.
You can have Him too, for He loves and cares for you
He can be a treasure both to you and me.
Your fellowship will start with His Spirit in your heart
And you'll have Him there for all eternity.
There can be only one true God, He's the God of Israel.
