If You Were A Single Man
By Dana Paul Robinson
I can tell you'd like to know how your life would be,
If I were to let you go and set you free of me.
What would be the consequence? It's simple to foresee.
Basic'ly in all events, You'd be lost without me!
If you were a single man, you'd live with a single plan,
And it would amuse you to do as you choose to living like Peter Pan!
You'd smoke you want to smoke if you were a single bloke.
You'd swear as you please and wear dungarees and live on a catamaran!
If there were no vows to bind you, and you had no heirs to rear,
No one would ever find you, cause you would disappear.
If you were a single man, if you were a bach'lor yet,
You'd flirt with each bachlorette.
And when you were through you'd find one who's new and go on as long as you can.
If you were at liberty to be like you'd like to be.
You'd sleep in your shorts and watch only sports and get by on beans and spam!
If there were no nuptial nexus to hold you in check each day,
You'd be drivin' a Lexus and not our Chevrolet, not our Chevrolet!
But you're not a single man
Why can't you understand.
Though you think it a curse,
it's better not worse that you're not a single man!
If you were a wifeless chap your life's be an endless nap
Your clothes would be patched and nothing would match.
Your head'd be attached to your cap.
If you had no room for a spouse.
You'd never vacuum the house.
Let's face it, you'd forget your basic etiquette
and walk about always discalced!
If I weren't here to guide you to show you how things should be.
There's no one there inside you to take the place of me.
You're not a single man. It's time that you understand.
You might think it's a curse, but for better or worse, you're not a single man.
