American Soldier
© 2008 Kyle Parpart
Verse I:
I’m an American soldier.
I stand head held high.
For my family’s freedom,
I would proudly die.
The hell of war,
No one will understand.
For I’ve been there,
And returned a shattered man.
Chorus:
I still tremble.
I still feel the pain.
War is hell.
You’ll never be the same.
From the first bullet,
That buzzes past your head,
Fear in the end,
Surely you’ll be dead.
Verse II:
Bombs exploding,
Each and every day.
Which bullet has my number?
Which bomb has my name?
The hell of war,
No one will understand.
For I’ve been there,
And returned a shattered man.
Repeat Chorus
Verse III:
Will I return to my family,
In a box made of wood?
With the flag folded over,
Sir and Ma’am your son did good.
He died like a hero,
In the hell of war.
Twenty-one gun salute,
Another soldier has life no more.
Repeat Chorus
