A Flower For Mama

By Joyce Lovelady

Verse
Mama, today, I planted you a flower,
In memory of you.
This flower is a rose of blue,
It carries a love so true.
Mama, you are this flower,
That blooms in Spring.
And this flower I do admire.
Your petals open in the rain.

Chorus
On that day, you went away,
It just broke my heart in two.
Now this flower that God gave me,
It just happens to be you.

Verse
When I look down at its petals,
I see your sweet smiling face.
If you were here, I'd award you medals,
For there's no one to take your place.
Mama, if it wasn't for this flower,
Oh tell me, where would I be?
By the love of God and His power,
He reaches out for me.

Repeat Chorus

Verse
I go to this flower,
In the morning dew.
I look at its petals,
With a love so true.
To only see,
Your lovely face anew.
Thoughts of you are with me,
In everything I do.

Chorus
Mama, I long to see you.
It makes me want to cry.
But I will meet you again some day,
In the sweet by and by.
